On October 26 th, 2010 - the day of his 18 th birthday - José passed away suddenly from an arrhythmia while swimming. Not only benefiting the sports he loved, swimming and water polo, recognitions within this level of giving will be a reflection of José’s passion for striving to always be one’s very best. ![]() Individuals, groups, and businesses interested in associating their contributions with this portion of the capital campaign are invited to combine their giving in this meaningful salute. For water polo, two full competition pools with warm-up areas are possible. For swimming, it can be a 10-lane, Olympic-sized venue or a 20-lane, short-course venue. This mission was inspired by José’s strong-desire for self-improvement and that of fellow athletes, great camaraderie and his practice of giving selflessly to others. This swim clinic is one of the annual events sponsored by the José Cerdá Aquatic Foundation, which was established to benefit swimming and water polo teams by improving the competitiveness of their athletes and fostering unity across teams. “Point Zero One” is a key signature of this clinic, as this was the time by which José missed his sectional cut in the 100 meter backstroke.ĭespite this, José stayed motivated pushing himself and did not let 0.01 second, the smallest margin possible, get in the way of achieving his swimming goals. The José Cerdá Swim Clinic is designed to help pre-college swimmers reach the next level of competition in a combined setting of water instruction and classroom presentations.
